More About Creativity COMMONS...

Creativity COMMONS Collective and Press has been functioning as a collective on an ad hoc basis since 2004. Since our inception we have been involved in anti-censorship and anti-occupation campaigns, cultural and activist interventions, and have sponsored activist art projects. It was always our intention to have publishing be a part of our mission and this has now begun with our launch projects in 2007. We are also looking forward to publishing diverse new works, CD projects, and collaborating on community action, community art projects, and to support social movements working for change.

At this time, we get our funding mostly from individual and community donations. When starting our collective, we agreed that attempting to get funding upon our collective's inception was not ideal. We did not want our mission, structure, or philosophies to be driven or inspired by foundation or government grants. Instead, we envisioned our publications and projects inspiring funding and donations. This has certainly been a challenging way to begin our work, but this has lead to many fruitful collaborations and inspired us to keep to our goals of sharing, reciprocity, and alliance and partnership building. Creativity COMMONS started out as a labour of love to support sustained re/imaginings of the role of creativity in social justice, and is now quickly becoming part of viable alternatives and energetic movements for change.

The Launch of our website on September 1, 2007 marked an exciting time for us. This was not only our international web launch but also the date of the first public launch of our collective and press, held on Galiano Island in British Columbia, Canada. We will also be launching our organization and our new publication and CD project in Vancouver, BC in winter 2007/08. We will keep you updated on our events and all the changes in store for us in the coming year.
